The Last Day Of Summer

The Last Day Of Summer - J.F. Smith When I heard this was Cory's story, I was expecting it to be from Cory's POV. Instead, it's told completely by Rett's POV. Which is fine for this story. It allows the story to work on its own. And Rett had enough of a story on his own without Cory's POV jumbling things up. I hate when parents are so cruel to their children. A parent's love is meant to be and always should be unconditional. I don't understand parent who love otherwise. As a parent, there is not one thing my child could do or say that would stop me from loving her. So these books where a character struggles to overcome those conditions the parent has put on them are always so difficult to read. I'm so glad this one had a happy ending, where many of those relationships in real life have a much sadder ending. This story was just beautiful. I'm quickly becoming a big fan of J.F. Smith.

It was a bit weird to read something that partially takes place where I live. Not many books take place in Alabama, and definitely not Montgomery. Reading about those places I'm familiar with added a fun twist to this story for me.
