A Forbidden Rumspringa (Gay Amish Romance Book 1)
This book was given to me for free by the author in exchange for an honest review. I'm not familiar with Amish beliefs, so this book was something new and I struggled with this. I just couldn't understand their beliefs. It frustrated me that Isaac's father wouldn't provide answers to the boys' questions. "That's just our way." That doesn't explain anything.
There's a scene where Isaac comforts David's little sister when she gets tearful at the thought of the horse being shot for having a bad shoe. David thanks him and he says she just needed assurance. Why do parents think its okay to not show affection for your children? In no world is this acceptable. My heart broke for all those children, David and Isaac's siblings that were being denied a basic need.
I would have loved to have David's POV throughout. But I hear Keira is working on that, so I'm definitely looking forward to reading this from his perspective. I can't imagine some of the struggles that young gay men go through, but to have to do it in that closed off, restricted environment seems so much more difficult.
I got worried there at the end that Isaac would go off on his own and David would stay behind. My heart started breaking for this couple, especially David. So to finish and see that David didn't deny himself for the sake of his family made me happy. This book has so much anguish and emotional turmoil, I'm glad it ended on a happy note. And I so cannot wait to read the next book on their adventure into the world!
